How to build bambo house kitchen | 10 Days start to finish

Day 1: Planning and Design

  1. Site Selection and Preparation:

    • Choose a flat, well-drained site for your kitchen. Consider proximity to your main house and accessibility for utilities like water and electricity.
    • Clear the area of any debris, roots, and vegetation.
  2. Design and Layout:

    • Sketch a simple blueprint of your kitchen, including dimensions, doorways, windows, and placement of kitchen appliances.
    • Decide on the type of bamboo structure you want: open-air, semi-enclosed, or fully enclosed.
  3. Gathering Materials:

    • Source quality bamboo poles (around 2-3 inches in diameter) that are treated for durability.
    • Other materials needed: nails, rope, thatch or bamboo matting for the roof, gravel or stones for the foundation, clay or cement for the floor, and basic carpentry tools.

Day 2-3: Laying the Foundation

  1. Mark the Layout:

    • Use stakes and string to mark the perimeter of your kitchen according to your design.
  2. Digging and Leveling:

    • Dig trenches around the perimeter for the foundation (around 1 foot deep).
    • Fill the trenches with gravel or stones to create a stable base.
  3. Setting the Foundation:

    • Place large bamboo poles vertically at the corners and along the perimeter to serve as the main structural support.
    • Ensure these poles are securely embedded into the ground and perfectly vertical.

Day 4-5: Building the Frame

  1. Vertical Supports:

    • Install additional vertical bamboo poles where needed for walls and roof support.
    • Space the poles evenly (about 3-4 feet apart).
  2. Horizontal Beams:

    • Attach horizontal bamboo beams across the top of the vertical supports to form the frame for the walls and roof.
    • Lash the beams securely with natural rope or bamboo strips.
  3. Roof Framing:

    • Construct the roof frame by adding diagonal bamboo beams to create a pitched roof.
    • Ensure the frame is sturdy and can support the weight of the roofing material.

Day 6-7: Roofing and Wall Construction

  1. Roof Installation:

    • Cover the roof frame with bamboo matting, thatch, or palm leaves.
    • Start from the bottom edge and work your way up, overlapping layers to ensure waterproofing.
  2. Wall Construction:

    • Attach horizontal bamboo slats or panels to the vertical supports for walls.
    • If you prefer an open-air kitchen, consider partial walls or leave sections open for ventilation.
  3. Window and Door Frames:

    • Install bamboo frames for windows and doors according to your design.
    • Make sure they are level and securely attached to the structure.

Day 8: Flooring and Utilities

  1. Flooring:

    • If using natural materials like clay or dirt, level the ground inside the kitchen and compact it.
    • Alternatively, pour a thin layer of cement for a more durable floor.
  2. Utilities:

    • Plan and install basic utilities like water supply and drainage.
    • Consider adding a simple bamboo or wood countertop for food preparation.

Day 9: Finishing Touches

  1. Polishing and Sealing:

    • Sand down rough edges on the bamboo and apply a natural sealant to protect against moisture and pests.
    • Add decorative touches like bamboo trim or carvings.
  2. Furnishing:

    • Install shelves, hooks, or other storage solutions using bamboo.
    • Consider adding bamboo furniture like a table and chairs for a dining area.

Day 10: Final Inspection and Adjustments

  1. Structural Check:

    • Inspect the entire kitchen for stability and make any necessary adjustments.
    • Ensure all joints are tight and the roof is securely fastened.
  2. Functional Testing:

    • Test utilities like water flow and drainage to ensure everything is working correctly.
    • Make final adjustments to doors, windows, and any movable parts.
  3. Clean-Up:

    • Remove any construction debris and clean the area around your new bamboo kitchen.
    • Celebrate your achievement with a small gathering or meal in your new space!
