In the heart of a serene countryside, surrounded by vast fields of green, lived two sisters, Duyen and Thao. Every morning, they woke up early to the sound of roosters crowing and the soft light of dawn breaking through their windows. This day was no different, but it held a special task for them: harvesting cassava roots.

Preparing for the Harvest

Duyen and Thao began their day by preparing their tools. They gathered sturdy hoes, baskets, and gloves, knowing that harvesting cassava required both strength and care. The sisters donned their conical hats, shielding their faces from the rising sun, and set off towards the fields.

Harvesting the Cassava Roots

The fields were a lush green expanse, with rows of cassava plants stretching out as far as the eye could see. The sisters worked methodically, using their hoes to dig around the base of each plant. They knew just how deep to dig to avoid damaging the precious roots. With each careful extraction, they revealed the large, starchy roots beneath the soil.

Lan, the elder sister, guided Hoa, showing her the best techniques for loosening the soil and lifting the roots. Despite the physical exertion, the sisters chatted and laughed, making the hard work enjoyable. The baskets gradually filled with the harvest, each root representing a step closer to their goal.

Washing and Sorting

Once they had harvested enough cassava, Duyen and Thao carried their heavy baskets back to the farmhouse. There, they washed the roots thoroughly, scrubbing away the dirt and revealing their smooth, pale surfaces. The sisters then sorted the cassava, separating the best roots for selling and setting aside any that were damaged or too small.

Preparing for the Market

With the cassava cleaned and sorted, Duyen and Thao carefully packed the roots into larger baskets lined with banana leaves to keep them fresh. They loaded the baskets onto their old wooden cart, securing them tightly with ropes. The cart was sturdy and well-used, having served the sisters for many market trips.

Journey to the Market

The journey to the market was a pleasant one, with the sisters walking side by side, the cart creaking gently behind them. The path wound through picturesque landscapes, past rivers, and over gentle hills. Along the way, they greeted neighbors and fellow farmers, exchanging friendly waves and smiles.

At the Market

The market was bustling with activity by the time they arrived. The air was filled with the sounds of vendors calling out their wares, customers haggling, and the rich aromas of fresh produce and street food. Duyen and Thao found their usual spot and set up their stall, arranging the cassava roots in neat, appealing piles.

Customers soon began to gather, attracted by the sight of the fresh, high-quality cassava. Thao, with her warm smile and easygoing manner, handled the sales while Duyen  managed the money and kept an eye on their stock. The sisters worked seamlessly together, their bond evident to everyone around them.

A Successful Day

As the day drew to a close, the sisters had sold nearly all their cassava roots. They counted their earnings, satisfied with the results of their hard work. Packing up the few remaining roots, they felt a deep sense of accomplishment and gratitude.

The journey home was a quiet one, with the sisters enjoying the peace of the evening and the satisfaction of a job well done. They knew that tomorrow would bring new tasks and challenges, but for now, they were content.
